California Friday Night Live Partnership

CFNLP logo

Friday Night Live builds partnerships for positive and healthy youth development which engage youth as active leaders and resources in their communities. Serving 56 counties across California, the California Friday Night Live Partnership acts as an umbrella for four innovative youth development programs targeted at three distinct age groups: Friday Night Live (grades 9-12); Club Live (grades 7-8); Friday Night Live Kids (grades 4-6); and Friday Night Live Mentoring (grades 7-12).

Teenwork

Teenwork is an annual statewide training institute that engages over 500 high school youth. All activities and workshops are developed and led by young people. Every year since 1984, high school students from all parts of California, representing the many and varied ethnic groups, spend six to seven months planning a youth development training institute. Over four days, approximately 550 students and 125 adults attend an institute that rotates between Northern and Southern California. Various activities include general sessions; large and small planning meetings; off-site activities; teen-led workshops on issues such as drugs, alcohol, gangs, pregnancy, suicide, driving under the influence, self-esteem, HIV/AIDS, recovery, etc.; a talent show; and a dance. Teenwork '85, the first such institute, started with its entire focus on the problem of drinking and driving. By Teenwork '87, the students expanded the focus to include even broader critical issues such as pregnancy, gangs, suicide, HIV/AIDS, and recovery. Teenwork focuses on positive ways that young people can contribute their skills and find opportunities in the communities in which they live.
