The CHARACTER COUNTS! Program

CHARACTER COUNTS! is a nationwide initiative which embraces six core values common to a democratic society that allows teachers, parents and community members to build and develop character in youth. CHARACTER COUNTS! is religiously and politically neutral. The six core values -- Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring and Citizenship -- transcend cultural, religious and socioeconomic differences.

CHARACTER COUNTS! was organized by Michael Josephson as a national partnership of more than 60 youth-influencing organizations to combat youth violence, irresponsibility and dishonesty by stressing the development of character.

CHARACTER COUNTS! is not another subject that adds to the burden of the classroom teacher. It is inexpensive and can easily be integrated into existing curriculum, enhancing the learning environment and building qualities which create good character.
