ERSportal Inservices ERS staff will come to your site and provide inservice training highlighting the materials and services schools receive when they contract for Media Plus services. This inservice also includes a hands-on class in your computer lab on logging into ERSportal, using the media, and booking materials on the ERS library website. The presentation takes approximately one hour. For more information or to set up training at your site, contact ERS at (559) 651-3031. Learning Resource Display Center (textbooks) Educational Resource Services houses the California Learning Resources Display Center, one of 23 in the state. All textbooks for grades kindergarten to eight that have been adopted by the State Board of Education are housed here for the public to view. Teachers come from all over the region to select materials from these for use in their classrooms. Although the items do not check out, sample copies can be ordered from the publishers. ERS hosts a yearly textbook showcase day to allow publishers to demonstrate their adopted materials to teachers. For more information, contact Steve Woods by e-mail at stevew@tcoe.org or by phone at (559) 651-3077. Library Contracts
A library contract allows teachers to borrow core and extended literature titles, kits with multiple copies of titles, big books, multicultural, reference, professional, and non-fiction materials. Schools that contract for library services will also receive consultant services from professional librarians relative to the selection and implementation of technology, instructional materials, development of library programs, library facility planning, and training of library personnel. A meeting developed just for library contracting schools is held each month at a different site and is filled with ideas and practical suggestions for best practices in library media centers. Finally, for those schools without professional librarians, our staff becomes their "librarian-of-record" for those all-important state funded projects that require a professional librarian in order to remain in compliance with state regulations.
For more information, contact Lupe Solis by e-mail at gsolis@tcoe.org or by phone at (559) 651-3031. Library Media Workshops A workshop for library staff from library contracting schools is held each month to discuss current legislation, develop bibliographies for ordering, selection criteria, ideas for literature projects, technology suggestions, and a host of other exciting ideas. For more information, contact Lupe Solis by e-mail at gsolis@tcoe.org or by phone at (559) 651-3031. Media Contracts An audio-visual contract allows teachers to borrow from a collection of approximately 9,000 videos, house an on-site collection of approximately 500 videos, a portion of which is updated annually, access to CD-ROM and computer software, source documents, simulations, sound recordings, and art prints. These materials may be ordered over the phone, on the Internet, or in person, and will be delivered and picked up by our ERS delivery staff. Each school is eligible to receive consultant services relative to the selection and implementation of technology, use of multimedia materials, and classroom instruction techniques. Teachers may have non-copyright videos that are pertinent to the curriculum duplicated for the cost of the cassette tape. For more information, contact Lupe Solis by e-mail at gsolis@tcoe.org or by phone at (559) 651-3031. Pick up and Delivery Our ERS drivers pick up and deliver each week from over 110 school sites that have a contract with us. Books and media are dropped off at a central location at each school and materials to be returned are picked up. County mail and flyers for coming events are also delivered. For more information, contact ERS at (559) 651-3031. Professional Library ERS has a broad collection of professional materials including magazines, videocassettes, and books.
