Teacher Recruitment Fair

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Who will be admitted to the Fair?

Only candidates who have pre-registered and have received a "golden ticket" will be admitted to the event. They will include those who are fully-credentialed Single Subject teachers; those who are credentialed to teach Special Education; those who are verified to be eligible for a Single Subject Intern Credential; and those who are verified to be eligible for a Special Education Intern Credential.

  • I have completed all course work and taken all examinations, but I am still waiting for test scores. Will I be admitted to the Fair?

Unless you have taken and passed 75% of your CSET exams prior to the Fair date, the answer is No. Otherwise, you will not be invited to participate unless you currently possess a Single Subject or Special Education Credential, or it can be verified that you are eligible for a Single Subject or Special Education Intern Credential.

  • How can I verify that I am eligible to be an intern?

To prove your eligibility for an internship, you must provide a "letter of eligibility" from your teacher preparation program. The letter should include the requirements which have been met, as well as all requirements that are pending with specific completion dates (e.g. Subtest 4 of single subject English CSET exam, or pre-service courses to be completed by May 22, 2011).

  • If I am an Out-of-State teacher, can I attend?
Yes, you are eligible to attend if you possess a Single Subject or Special Education Credential. A credentialed teacher from out-of-state may obtain a five-year preliminary credential and be given five years to complete any other necessary course work or testing requirements in order to teach in California.

  • What time will candidates be admitted to the Fair?

Those candidates who pre-register by completing the online Ed-JOIN application and Target Success Screener by 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, April 5, 2011 and meet all of the requirements will be invited to attend the fair and be admitted by 9:00 a.m.

  • How do I register for the Fair?

You register for the Fair by completing the online Ed-JOIN application for this particular Fair. Be sure to print a copy of this application and bring it with you.
    *** Please Note ***
Teacher candidates looking for a position for the upcoming school year are well-advised to create a "profile" on the Ed-JOIN job posting system. (To create your personal profile, go to www.edjoin.org and click on the "Register Now" tab.) Once a profile is created, a candidate may apply for multiple positions over a period of time; Ed-JOIN will auto-populate the majority of the information that is required from your profile on record. If you need assistance in scanning your documents for attachment to your profile, you may contact the California Teacher Recruitment Program at (559) 624-1035.

  • If I have trouble completing the online application, whom should I contact?

You may call the Ed-JOIN Help Desk between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, at 1-888-900-8945, or e-mail edjoinhelpdesk@sjcoe.net.

  • Should I include attachments with my Ed-JOIN application?

Yes. You must attach a copy of your valid credential or letter verifying intern-eligibility in the appropriate subject area. It is recommended that you include all other attachments when you create a profile so that they will be available to administrators when you make application to specific school districts. (Hard copies of your attachments should be included in the packets which you intend to leave with school district administrators at the fair).

  • Should I print my Ed-JOIN Teacher Fair application?

Yes. Please use your printed Ed-JOIN application as the cover document for your packets.

  • I have completed the online application and online screener. What do I do next? How do I know if I will be admitted?

Once you have submitted your online application, you should receive an e-mail confirmation. Your online application will be reviewed by Teacher Recruitment Program staff. If it is determined that you are eligible to attend, you will receive an invitation via e-mail which will provide you with the exact location and "golden ticket". Be sure to keep the "golden ticket" in a safe place and bring it with you to the fair. It will be your admission ticket.

  • If I make a change to my Ed-JOIN profile, will this be enough to register for the Fair?

No. You must specifically make application to this particular recruitment event in order to be pre-registered. You should receive an e-mail confirmation that your application has been received.

  • Will districts have me complete their application?

Some districts may ask you to complete their specific district's application form. The online application for this particular fair is primarily for pre-registration purposes and for contacting prospective candidates once the fair is over.

  • What should I include in my packets?

    • A copy of your Ed-JOIN application
    • Resumé
    • Copies of CBEST, CSET and RICA test results
    • Complete copies of transcripts
    • Copy of your Teaching Credential(s)
    • Letters of Recommendation (three is preferred)

  • Who do I address my introduction to?

The Human Resources Administrator should be named as your school district point of contact.

  • Do my transcripts need to be official?

Unofficial transcripts are acceptable for the Teacher Recruitment Fair. You would need to provide official transcripts to a school district upon receiving an offer of employment from that district.

  • How many packets should I bring?

We estimate that 10 to 15 school districts will be participating in the fair. The number of packets you bring is entirely up to you. Some candidates prefer to limit their search to a specific geographic area, while others attempt to contact as many districts as time allows. The average number would be 8 to 10. It is better to overestimate than to not have enough once you get there.

  • What should I wear?

You should dress in professional attire. You will find yourself in employment interview situations.
