Tulare County History Day Information for Coaches

What is a History Day Coach? Take this test to see if it could be you!
  • Do you love history?
  • Do you teach history, English language arts, music, art, science, or mathematics?
  • Would it excite you to know that a student knows more about a topic in history than you do?
  • Would you enjoy watching students blossom as they learn about a subject of their choice?
  • Would you like your students to practice their research skills?
  • Would you like your students to develop public speaking poise?
  • Would you like to see higher test scores?
  • Would you like to have more positive parent involvement in your classroom?
If you can answer yes to three of these questions then you are a prime candidate to be a History Day coach. If you answered yes to only two questions, the experience will make a History Day believer out of you. If you answered yes to one, this experience will brighten your school year.

History Day is an astonishing event. Students use all the skills they have learned in their educational journey to create a project that will knock your socks off. It's amazing because as they learn, people respond to them in magical ways. Famous people give them private video interviews. They discover never before uncovered facts. Doors are open to them that are closed to adults. They make lifelong friends. They fight causes. They change the world. They see how powerful knowledge is, and they want it.

History Day has the ability to change a student's life forever for the better. As a coach, you are the encourager. You are the person who asks, "What have you learned so far? Have you thought about…? How would you tweak it?" You are the person that reminds them that the exhibit or poster has to be a certain size. You are the one who marvels with their parents every time a new contact calls them.
