Information for Coaches

Event Day Arrival
Registration begins at 8:00 a.m. and the competition will begin promptly at 8:45 a.m. Upon arrival, please escort your students to the Exhibit Hall. Please check in at the registration desk and pick up your packet. Arrive early to ensure you have enough time to review the day's schedule with your students and distribute pencils, nametags, scratch paper, etc. Adults who will be scoring the Pro Bowl tests will meet in the San Joaquin A room at 9:30 a.m. to review ground rules, level the rubric, etc. Please plan your activities so that you arrive on time.

Student Conduct
In order to maintain proper supervision of students during the competition, please review the following rules with your students.

Students are to remain in the Exhibit Hall at all times, including during the break. Lunch must be eaten in the Exhibit Hall.
There are two sets of restrooms located near the concession stands adjacent to the Exhibit Hall. Send only two students at a time.
Please ask students to use the appropriate trash containers.

Coaches, your help is critical! During breaks and lunch, know where your students are congregating and maintain proper supervision. Caution your students that other activities are taking place in the Visalia Convention Center at the same time as the Math Super Bowl, so everyone must be respectful and courteous.

Lunch
McDonald's will provide a complementary lunch for all students, coaches, and adult helpers. This lunch will include a hamburger, chips, fruit, and a soda.

Snacks
Coaches may bring snacks and/or something to drink for break time. No snacks will be provided.

Alternates
Only one alternate per team is allowed. Please do not bring extra alternates on the day of the event. Alternates will participate in the Power Bowl, Pro Bowl, and Team Bowl events, but will not be eligible for awards.

Calculators
Students should provide their own non-graphing calculators. Students possessing a graphing calculator during a test will be disqualified. Please make sure calculators are properly labeled in case they are misplaced.

Scoring and Monitoring the Tests
As a coach, you are expected to participate in the monitoring and scoring of the tests and to provide adult supervision of your students. One or two teams require one adult. Three or four teams require two adults. Please indicate on your registration form the names of all adult helpers you are bringing with you and whether they prefer to monitor the tests or score the tests.

Student Answers
All answers must be one of the following forms:

integer (example: 7)
reduced fraction (example: ¾)
mixed number; fraction reduced (example: 2½)
radical form; not possible to simplify to a whole number (example: )
money rounded to the nearest cent (example: $10.15)
or as otherwise specified in the problem

Scantron Instructions for the Power Bowl

Student ID numbers have been assigned and are already bubbled in on the Scantron forms. Your assigned ID numbers are listed on the Scantron envelope label.
Prior to the Power Bowl test, you will be asked to bubble in each student's name on the Scantron forms used for the Power Bowl. Accuracy is essential. Please print clearly and bubble in for each student their last name and first name on the Scantron form. Be sure to fill in the space bubble between the last and first names, as shown below.
Before the Power Bowl test, hand out the Scantrons to your students. Remind students to clean up any stray marks. Scantron forms will be processed as is.
Once the test is over, collect the Scantrons and place them back in the Scantron envelope in numerical order.
When asked to turn them in, please put them in the LARGE school box if you are a designated large school or in the SMALL school box if you are a designated small school. These boxes are brightly labeled "LARGE SCHOOLS" and "SMALL SCHOOLS", and are on the edge of the stage.

Scantrons will be processed as submitted!

Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony will begin at approximately 12:20 p.m. Coaches will be asked to present Power Bowl Honors ribbons to their own school. Please be ready and available to come forward and present at this time.
