Health Education and Social Services
Migrant nurses provide supplementary services to help migrant students overcome their physical/social needs and to promote their well-being for effective learning in academics.Services/activities include:
- Assessment and referral for treatment of health problems
- Nurses serve as resources to district and county personnel
- Coordination of health services with districts and community agencies
- Dental sealant clinics in collaboration with San Joaquin Valley College
- HIV education for migrant families in collaboration with community agencies
- CPR/First Aid training
- Mentoring projects
- Dental, vision and hearing screening for migrant students in non-mandated grades, based on referral
- Health education via home visits, parent meetings and health fairs
