Tulare / Kings County P-16
Network for Student Success
What is the Network for Student Success?
The Network for Student Success is a Tulare and Kings County partnership of businesses, economic development and community organizations, parents, and education partners representing and facilitating P-16 education collaboration for the two county area.
The Network for Student Success is comprised of the chief executive officers of member organizations. Through their collaborative initiatives, the Network will develop projects and activities that enhance the teaching-and-learning experience for students from pre-school through college graduation. Projects will also assure teachers better prepare ALL students for success beyond high school.
The Network for Student Success is committed to producing an educated and skilled community and to the continued economic well-being and improved quality of life for all residents of Tulare and Kings County.
The Network for Student Success must have access to the levers that will cause dramatic changes in schools and colleges; therefore, the leadership of our school system and colleges must be involved in this P-16 network and deeply committed to the goal of success for all students. But educators can't do it alone; we will need community-wide support to make and sustain change. Strong civic and business leaders will be part of the P-16 Network from the beginning.
What are the functions of the Network and the responsibilities of individual members?
The network will provide for the
- Establishment of a regular meeting schedule for the CEOs of participating institutions and organizations in the network.
- Assignment of a professional staff person to guide and coordinate local work.
- Development and implementation of goals, objectives and initiatives that promote student achievement and transition to higher education.
- Establishment of clear and effective accountability mechanisms for each part of the P-16 education system that rewards progress in raising student achievement.
Individual members will
- Identify a high-level staff person within each participating institution whose job description will include the P-16 work.
- Secure the long-term institutional commitments, cooperation and participation needed to support the network.
To be successful, our network and individual members must also
- Create and support structures that provide teachers and others with regular time to work together in linking classroom practice to student achievement.
- Build capacity within schools and departments for implementing reforms.
- Establish clear, high, public standards for student academic achievement.
- Assess and report regularly to the public about student progress toward adopted standards.
How can I get involved?
- Individual public/private school districts and higher education partners within the Tulare and Kings County area may submit intent to participate.
- Because collaboration and participation is essential to increasing student success, all accredited public/private K-12 districts and schools interested in joining the network will identify a business or community partner as part of a team-based application process.
- All accredited post-secondary institutions including vocational, two-year and four-year colleges or universities serving Tulare and Kings Counties will be eligible for network membership. Post-secondary institutions will not be required to identify a business or community partner.
Why Join the Network for Student Success?
Network partners will have exclusive opportunities that will include
- Regular updates and inclusion in network promotional activity and public information.
- Increased access to resources and services.
- Technical assistance and support for student/school data analysis and staff development.
- Customized post-secondary transition and student articulation services and support.
