Fingerprinting Requirements

• Livescan is the electronic scanning of fingerprints and is becoming the standard method for submission of fingerprints.
  
  
• For child care facilities, all employees and volunteers must have a criminal background check (with the exception of relatives of a child in care who are not used to replace staff in providing direct care and supervision of children).
  
  
• Fingerprints must be submitted to the Department of Justice prior to the presence of a worker or volunteer in the facility (this applies to both child care centers and family child care homes). The Department of Justice is to complete a check within 14 days of receiving the fingerprints.
  
  
• A request for transfer of a criminal records clearance must be in writing. A copy of a state issued photo identification (such as a driver's license) must be submitted with the request.
  
  
• Failure to submit fingerprints as required may subject licensees to a $100 civil penalty per violation.
