Psychological services are provided to the 34 direct service school districts and to TCOE programs for the severely handicapped. TCOE school psychologists focus on assisting district personnel with student behavior issues and assessment.

Important elements of the psychological services include:

inservice for staff on methods of dealing with problem behaviors
group sessions for students
parent education programs
behavior intervention services
programs designed to foster positive school climate
assessment of students, when needed, to determine the existence or severity of an intellectual disability

Psychological services provided severely handicapped students are designed to go beyond mandated assessments and typically provide assistance in dealing with behavior plans for students.

The Tulare County Office of Education, Special Services Division is noted for a pragmatic approach to utilizing the training and experience of each of its psychologists.

The office also employs a behavior specialist to assist districts and programs for the severely handicapped with behavior issues of a severe nature.
